POPQuiz #3: Riddles and Poetry, Intrigue and Innovation. And Patents. This One Has it All.
Today’s POPQuiz is a gift.
While you await the final results of POPQuiz #2, we have a new one for you, courtesy of one of your colleagues and fellow POPQuiz enthusiasts, Henk Pattyn.
Henk submitted quite a few vampire-themed patents to our last POPQuiz, and we featured just one of them in our last post. But he didn’t stop there. He also submitted a great suggestion for a POPQuiz challenge.
So here it is. We even wrote a poem for the occasion.
POPQuiz #3: The Challenge
To answer this POPQuiz, we will start you with a riddle. The answers - or the beginnings of them, anyway – may well be in plain sight.
On a shore that gave birth to a field
The love of a William revealed
A crack team of two
A cloak red + blue
And ideas: more breaking than making.
Given what you have learned from the above poem, can you answer the following questions?
1. Who are the two?
2. One of the two has patents: old, and new. What is the number of the most recently granted patent?
3. The other of the two does not seem to appear in the patent literature, despite an impressive record of successful innovation. What could make this person’s patents easier to find, if those documents existed?
4. What was the original career of the person in question 2?
5. Where are the two now?
