Can you spot the celebrities? We can’t either – at least not in this photograph.
But that’s the life of a stock photo celebrity for you – all the problems with paparazzi – at least for the duration of the shoot – but none of the perks of fame. So why not go hunting for real celebrities in your patent searches?

Last week’s POPQuiz wasn’t the easiest. And since Cathy is furiously catching up on our POPQuiz recaps, we’ll take it easy this week. Just a reminder, too, that the actual Patent Olympiad is now less than two months away…
For this week’s POPQuiz, we were inspired by our subscriber Sander De Vrieze’s suggestion and enlist you to be a bit of a paparazzi.
popQuiz #3: The challenge
Find patent documents stuffed full of celebrities – or more accurately, names of celebrities. The celebrity names can be mentioned in anywhere in the document, as long as it’s clear that that the names can be tied to an identifiable celebrity.
We’re looking for submissions with the highest number of unique celebrity names.
How to Play
1. Craft a search that you think will capture the most celebrity names in a single patent.
2. Find and submit the patent document with the highest number of unique mentions of a celebrity’s name. This is your patent searcher’s equivalent of a great photo-stalking day.
3. Add a little information to help us understand who the celebrities are, if you think we might not be familiar with them. You can add a little information to give us context.
Sadly, your POPQuiz reporters are most familiar with English language celebrities.
That’s why we’ll need a little help with people who aren’t Kim Kardashian, Elton John, or Justin Trudeau. Yes, we are embarrassed about this. Your help might consist of a short note about who the person is, a link to an IMDB record or news article, or perhaps even links to paparazzi photos of the person in question.

If for some reason you are finding far too many patents packed with celebrity names, you could challenge yourself by focussing on celebrity name counts of a particular type – famous television hosts, for instance, or actors who have also appeared in musicals, or famous people who have gone to jail for a minor but embarrassing crime. It could earn you a shout out – but we have no idea what you’ll find.
